Durban window washer rescued from precarious perch
A man was rescued by eThekwini Fire and Emergency Services after his platform’s ropes got entangled at a high rise building in the Durban central business district on 5 August 2017. The man was cleaning the windows of the building when strong winds caused the ropes fastened to the rooftop and used to lower the platform to become entangled. Fire fighters broke through one of the windows from inside the building but were not able to reach the man. They then performed a high angle rescue to reach the man, who was stuck eight floors up. They lowered him to a balcony on the second floor. The strong winds added to the challenge of bringing the man to safety. He was assessed by medics and was found to be uninjured, although traumatised by the incident.
